It was a good first day…

So I started my ‘plan’ today.  It went pretty good, if I do say so myself.  It was a bit of a challenge though, today was my father’s birthday and every year I bake a cake for him, well him and everyone else’s birthday, but anyways I refrained from licking the bowl, or even eating a piece at all.  I’m very proud of myself for that, cause usually I’m always thinking ‘o well one little piece won’t make any difference’ but in the end it always does.  So no birthday cake or ice cream for Melissa. haha.

Ah!  I bought this exercise ball thing.  This thing is amazing!  I was a little afraid at first, thinking my big butt was gonna pop this thing, but I didn’t. haha. Its pretty cool though, I’m gonna look up more ways to use it later on.  I also bought these resistance bands, I think thats what there called.  This, I don’t like as much.  There made out of rubber and in the little booklet it said to put it behind your back and then straighten your arms out yadda yadda yadda.  Ok, well I did that, and the dang thing rolled up and got caught in my hair!  I was flippin out.  lol.  If you ever had anything caught in your hair like that, then you know.  Or maybe I just have a sensitive scalp, I did end up getting it out though, and without ripping any of my hair out, thank goodness.  lol.  I think I’mma start bike riding though.  I always heard that was really good for ya.  So maybe I’ll give it a try, who knows? Ya know? lol.

Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions for some good effective exercises, let me know.

Thanks!

Melissa.

    Welcome to buddyslim!
Good job on doing well on your first day. I have a swiss ball too! And a resistance band, but I love my dumbbells!
A great site that you can find out good exercise demonstrations is youtube actually…when I got my ball I bookmarked alot of youtube videos on how to work different parts of the body…like doing push-ups on the ball, ect. This also applies to things like the band, and so on. If you want to buy a dvd you might find clips of it on youtube to get a general feeling of the workout and if you are at that level of fitness…
Also sparkpeople.com and livestrong.com are other great sites (both are free) both contain great resources on nutrition and exercise. Sparkpeople has these 10-20 minute free workouts that you can stream off of your computer-weights, cardio, Pilates ect. And other exercise demonstrations that you might find useful.
And both of those sites, if you sign up, will give you a calorie range that you can eat in…my spark range is somewhat lower than my livestrong.com range, I tend to go with sparks but it is a personal choice I think (I have a tough time eating enough to meet sparks most days)
hmmmm…what else? Motivation wise I started with stickers on a calendar. I bought cute cheap stickers from the $1 store and made a list of goals like eating in my calorie range, eating X amount of fruits and veggies, getting enough water and 10-30 minutes of exercise a day. On days that I met my goals, I put a stick on the calendar. Then, even though the scale didn’t change as much or I didn’t see it in the mirror, I knew I was sticking to my plan and making progress! When I started seeing results I quit doing my stickers…
    Good luck!
